STYLE TIPS (January) - Heels Support

I can’t seem to make tights work with heels. Any suggestions?

Pairing tights with heels is inherently practical—you're trying to stay warm, after all—so stop trying to achieve that frothy, made-of-cobwebs-and-dewdrops style that comes so effortlessly during warm-weather months. To make the look work for winter, the answer lies in the heels and soles of your shoes. Marni's rough-hewn wood-and-leather pump—think grown-up version of a clog—has a rustic simplicity that's very sexy when paired with textured stockings and a short skirt. It’s the weight of the shoes that balances the texture of the stockings so beautifully. But you don’t need to go all Swedish schoolgirl to pull off the tights-and-heels look. You’ve got options: The contrast of rich black hose against a more slender sparkly, strappy heel works too. A finer gauge stocking is the key to pulling off this dressier look—and a little texture on the shoe (rhinestones, gemstones, choose your sparkle accordingly) never hurts either.

  1. I think it's best just to wear a simple pair of black tights if one wants to wear a unique and colourful pump, or the other way around.

  3. Cara,

Tights work best with boots and skirts or shorts. You may want to try knee high socks they always look cute with high heels.
